Louisiana Department of Education Releases Advanced Placement Scores

Today, the Louisiana Department of Education released the results of the May, 2017, Advanced Placement (AP) exam administration. In 2017, Lafayette Parish administered 1,090 AP exams. Passing scores were earned on 487 exams which is 44.7% of AP exams administered. This is nearly 10% higher than the average passing rate statewide of 34%. Further, Lafayette Parish continues to rank among the top 10 districts in the state according to the number of passing exams in 2017.

Of the comprehensive high schools Lafayette High School continues to post very strong AP results with 405 passed exams in 2017. The school was ranked 4th in the state according to the number of passed exams. The passing rate at Lafayette High stands at 62.4%, 27.4% higher than the state average. Dr. Donald Thornton, principal of Lafayette High School, said, “This awesome achievement is a result of a total team effort. Students are dedicated to challenging themselves and pushing themselves to achieve. Teachers are dedicated to educating themselves on the exams to be better equipped to prepare students. It shows that the extra hours spent on intensive study sessions after school and on weekends have paid off. Administrators are dedicated to providing resources, encouraging teachers and students, and pushing for higher rigor and higher expectations at all levels. This achievement is another great example of carrying out our #LHSProud mantra! Congratulations to all the students who have achieved high scores on the AP exams, especially our Mighty Lions!”
