Lafayette Parish School System Community Eligibility Provision

As an alternative to the Traditional Meal Benefit Application Program that qualifies the individual student to receive free or reduced price meals, school districts across the nation that participate in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs now have another Meal Benefit option to offer students. The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), introduced by USDA as a result of the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, provides free Breakfast and Lunch meals to students attending schools that qualify for the program. Based on certain economic data, 31 LPSS schools qualified for the CEP Meal Benefit since first implemented:

All enrolled students at these sites are eligible to receive breakfast and lunch meals at school for the entire school year at no charge and will not be asked to submit a Meal Benefit Application. Other students that attend LPSS schools not listed above may apply for a Traditional Meal Benefit available in both the electronic and paper format. The electronic application can be accessed online at www.MySchoolApps.com/Application.

The Community Eligibility Provision, effective since July 1, 2014, has shown the most success and improvement in the areas of student meal participation and classroom readiness, while giving financial support to parents.
