Lafayette Parish School System superintendent Dr. Donald Aguillard has sponsored a reading initiative to recognize students for their independent reading. Any students who reads one million or more words with 85% or better accuracy has been recognized by Dr. Aguillard as a “Million Word Achiever.” Word counts were tracked throughout the school year, beginning June 1, 2016, and ending April 28, 2017.
Certificates and T-shirts were awarded to any student who became a Million Word Achiever. The top students at each grade level district-wide were also recognized, as was the school with the most Million Word Achievers.
