Based on recent economic hardships experienced in Lafayette Parish, the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) will now be expanded to include 10 additional school sites beginning November 1, 2016. Based on certain economic criteria, the newest school sites eligible to participate are:
Acadiana High LJ Alleman Middle Paul Breaux Middle Broussard Middle Comeaux High School |
JW James Elementary Myrtle Place Elementary Plantation Elementary Ridge Elementary Woodvale Elementary |
The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), introduced by USDA as a result of the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 provides free breakfast and lunch meals to students attending schools that qualify for the program. Since the implementation of the CEP Program in Lafayette Parish in 2015, a total of 31 school sites will now be participating.
Students attending schools that are not eligible to participate in CEP may apply for the Traditional Meal Benefit, available in both the electronic and paper format. The electronic application can be accessed and completed online at www.MySchoolApps.com/Application
Although meals are offered to students attending CEP schools at no charge, any student negative account balance remains the responsibility of the parent and must be paid prior to the end of the school year.
The Community Eligibility Provision, effective since July 1, 2014, has shown the most success and improvement in the areas of student meal participation and classroom readiness, while giving financial support to parents.
