Lafayette Parish School System Superintendent Appoints New Principals

Lafayette Parish School System Superintendent Dr. Donald Aguillard has appointed Kimberly Etie principal at Milton Elementary/Middle School, Sonjie Fontenot principal at Judice Middle School, Claire Leger assistant principal at Carencro High School, Amy Deslattes assistant principal at Lafayette High School, and Jada Singleton assistant principal at Plantation Elementary School.

Kimberly Etie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from UL Lafayette and Master’s in Education from McNeese State University.  Ms. Etie has 18 years of experience in education, seven years as a classroom teacher, four as a district curriculum interventionist, and seven years as an assistant principal in Vermilion Parish. In addition to her service, Ms. Etie is a National Board Certified Teacher and recipient of the NECC Lights Grant and the Vermilion Parish Technology Integration Grant.  She has been named Louisiana Region IV Elementary Teacher of the Year, Eaton Park Elementary Teacher of the Year, and she received the Sallie Mare First Class Teacher Award from the American Association of School Administrators

Sonjie Fontenot earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University and completed the Teacher Education Program at UL Lafayette.  She completed a Master’s in Education from the American College of Education. Ms. Fontenot served as a teacher for nine years and a school librarian for ten years.  She has served as the assistant principal at Edgar Martin Middle School for the past three years.  

Claire Leger earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from UL Lafayette.  She also earned a Master’s in Education from UL Lafayette. Ms. Leger served as a teacher and then curriculum coordinator at Carencro Middle School for eleven years.  She subsequently served as an assistant principal at Carencro Middle School for two years and then as assistant principal at Youngsville Middle School for three years. Ms. Leger was the recipient of many grants including the Society of Petroleum Engineers Grant, the UL Lafayette Fellowship Grant, the Acadiana Arts Council Grant for Math , the Hurricane Katrina Relief Grant, and the Lafayette Education Foundation Math Grant.   

Amy Deslattes earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Nicholls State University.  She earned a Master’s in Education from the American College of Education. Ms. Deslattes was a classroom English teacher for 15 years.  She has served as an instructional strategist for Lafayette High School for three years.  Ms. Deslattes is a National Board Certified teacher.  She has earned many awards including the Best Buy Teacher Award for Technology Implementation, the Veterans of Foreign Wars State Runner Up Teacher of the Year Award, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4222 Teacher of the Year Award, and has been named Iberia Parish Teacher of the Year.  She was appointed by
 
Superintendent John White to serve on the Board of Directors for the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and Arts.

Jada Singleton earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from UL Lafayette.  She earned a Master’s in Education from Southern University, and 30 additional graduate hours in Educational Leadership from Northwestern State University. Ms. Singleton has served as an elementary math teacher for 13 years, and a math instructional coach for 3 years. She is a member of the National Council for Supervisors of Mathematics and served on the Standards Review Committee for the Louisiana Department of Education.

In addition to these new appointments, several administrators are being transferred to strengthen administrative teams across the parish.  Amanda Guillory, currently an itinerant assistant principal at Youngsville Middle School and Gallet Elementary School is being assigned full time to Youngsville Middle School. Lisa Semere, assistant principal at Paul Breaux Middle School, is reassigned to Acadian Middle as an assistant principal. Melanie Heintz, assistant principal at Acadian Middle is reassigned as assistant principal at Edgar Martin Middle School. Chad Guillory, an assistant principal at David Thibodaux STEM Academy is being reassigned to Comeaux High School as assistant principal. Tia Trahan, currently itinerant assistant principal at Comeaux High School and Acadiana High School is moving to David Thibodaux STEM Academy as assistant principal. Cavetra Babineaux, itinerant assistant principal at Westside Elementary and Ossun Elementary is moving to Westside Elementary full time as assistant principal.

Lafayette Parish currently has four assistant principal positions open and advertised. Two positions are full time at Paul Breaux Middle and Green Thibeaux Lindon Elementary. The other two positions are itinerant positions between Acadiana and Comeaux High and Ossun and Charles M. Burke Elementary.
