Lafayette Parish Elementary and Middle Schools’ PARCC Parent Nights

In preparation for the Louisiana Department of Education’s release of PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) test results the week of November 9, all Lafayette Parish Elementary and Middle schools will be holding PARCC Parent meetings. School officials will provide parents with information and resources to help them better interpret the new reports and determine what additional supports or enrichment their children might need. School administrators will reach out directly to parents to notify them of the scheduled meeting times.

The new student PARCC reports will include an overall score in math and English, a breakdown of the student’s performance into specific skills for both subjects, and a comparison of how the student performed with other students in the same school, district, and state. Because PARCC is more rigorous assessment than the LEAP and iLEAP tests, there is an expectation that student scores may look lower than they have in the past. In material provided to schools by the LDOE, the message to parents is clear: “A low score does not mean your child did not improve or learned less. It simply means that the expectations have been raised for all students. Results on these tests will not impact student promotion or negatively impact students or teachers in any way.”
