Enrollment in the Lafayette Parish Public School System currently stands at 29,692. This number reflects an increase of 163 students enrolled at this time last year. While the district has reportedly lost a total of 114 students to local area charter schools, it has gained 111 students back from these same charters, resulting in a nearly neutral net impact on public school enrollment.
The state mandated School Choice Program offering students attending “D” and “F” schools the opportunity to enroll in another “C” or higher rated school in the district is in the final stages of the application and transfer process. 147 elementary school applicants and 28 middle school applicants are in the process of being notified. These applicants will be notified by the end of the day tomorrow. 30 high school applicants have all been contacted. The transfer process can begin once the applicants have all been notified.
