As an alternative to the Traditional Meal Benefit Application Program that qualifies an individual student to receive free or reduced price meals, school districts across the nation that participate in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs now have another Meal Benefit option to offer students. The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), introduced by the USDA as a result of the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, will be implemented in 19 Lafayette Parish Public Schools beginning with the 2015-2106 school year. CEP provides free breakfast and lunch meals to students attending schools that qualify for the program. Based on certain economic criteria, the school sites eligible to participate are:
Acadian Middle
Alice Boucher Elementary
Charles Burke Elementary
Carencro Middle
Carencro Heights Elementary
Katherine Drexel Elementary
Duson Elementary
Evangeline Elementary
JW Faulk Elementary
Lafayette Middle
Live Oak Elementary
SJ Montgomery Elementary
NP Moss Preparatory Academy
Northside High
Ossun Elementary
Prairie Elementary
Scott Middle
Truman Early Childhood Center
Westside Elementary
All enrolled students at these sites are eligible to receive breakfast and lunch meals at school for the entire school year at no charge and will not be asked to submit a Meal Benefit Application. Other students, including those students in the household who attend LPSS schools not listed above, may apply for free and reduced price lunch in both electronic and paper format. The electronic application can be accessed and completed online at www.applyforlunch.com/Application
The Community Eligibility Provision, implemented on July 1, 2014, has shown the most success and improvement in the areas of student meal participation and classroom readiness, while also giving financial support to parents.
