LPSS Teacher Named Recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics

On July 1, 2015, President Obama named Lafayette Parish School System teacher Lerri Cockrell as a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics. One hundred and eight teachers nationwide were named as recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teachers. The awards are the nation’s highest honors for teachers of mathematics and science. Awardees serve as models for their colleagues, inspiration to their communities, and leaders in the improvement of mathematics and science education. Ms. Cockrell will receive a citation signed by the president, a National Science Foundation award of $10,000, and trip to Washington D.C. to attend an awards ceremony.

Ms. Cockrell has served the district for 22 years. She currently teaches at David Thibodeaux STEM Magnet Academy.
