Start of School Reminders

With the new school year beginning soon, we have several important updates to share with you. All of this information, including the new district calendar, can be found on our website: www.lpssonline.com, and we encourage you to check there for further details. At the board meeting on August 4,  2021 the Learn Lafayette reopening plan, an updated pupil progression plan, and the Student/Parent handbook were approved.

We want to highlight a few important items that have been updated. The Learn Lafayette plan details the protocols that will be used to maintain the health and safety of students and staff during the pandemic. Most importantly, to begin the school year, all students and staff will be required to wear masks throughout the school day. Social distancing and other measures will be in place to minimize the risk of viral spread. More details can be found on the LPSS website.

In addition, the district wants to remind families that it will continue to provide free meal service to all students, regardless of income eligibility, through the 2021-2022 school year. Although meals are free to all students this year, Child Nutrition Services strongly recommends Non-CEP, traditional meal benefit schools, to continue to apply for meal benefits through the online application or paper application (available after August 12 at your child’s school site).  In the event that additional benefits are awarded throughout the 2021-2022 school year, it is possible that meal benefit status will need to be determined for your child or family.

As a reminder, school starts August 12 for students in grades 1 through 12 on an A-day/B-day schedule. A-Day (odd address) students will report Thursday, August 12, while B-Day (even address) students will report on Friday, August 13. All students in grades 1-12 will begin full attendance on Monday, August 16.

A-Day (odd address) students in Pre-K and Kindergarten will report to school on Monday, August 16. B-Day (even address) students in Pre-K and Kindergarten will report to school on Tuesday, August 17. All Pre-K and Kindergarten students will begin full attendance on Wednesday, August 18. All students in grades Pre-K to K will report to school for full attendance on Wednesday, August 18.

Thank you, and we look forward to welcoming back students for the new school year!
