LPSS Holds Flag Presentation at Ossun Elementary and Live Oak Elementary

Ossun Elementary Students with on-campus SRO and State Representatives

The Lafayette Parish School System, in coordination with Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, held a flag presentation for students at Ossun and Live Oak Elementary schools. Students were presented with American flags that were once flown over the Louisiana State Capitol building by state Representatives Johnathan Goudeau and Julie Emerson. The flags were donated to these students for their efforts in collaborating with their SROs and LPSO’s Honor Guard Team to ensure flags are raised, lowered and flown properly on their school campuses every day. Students were presented with a certificate of appreciation to honor their commitment and service by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Sergeant Shelly Landry of the LPSO, who was involved in teaching these students how to fly the flag properly, says, “This event was very special to me because these children have made a commitment to raise and lower the American Flag every school day. To me, as a veteran of the armed forces, the flag represents the sacrifices of my brothers and sisters, as well as the freedoms this country affords us. I hope that this tradition continues.”
