LPSS Names New Supervisor of Language Acquisition

Connie Fontenot

Ms. Connie Fontenot has been appointed as the district’s next Supervisor of Language Acquisition. Fontenot is replacing Ms. Ginger Richard who was recently promoted to Director of Elementary Schools.

Fontenot has proudly served the students of the Lafayette Parish School System for over 23 years. She began her educational career as a reading tutor at Carencro Heights Elementary. Her teaching experience began at Duson Elementary from 2000-2009 where she taught 3rd and 5th grade and was selected as Teacher of the Year for 2003.

Fontenot then served as an assistant principal for eight years. She began her administrative experience at Alice Boucher Elementary from 2009-2012, then Myrtle Place Elementary from 2012-2014, and S. J. Montgomery Elementary from 2014-2017.

In 2017, Fontenot returned to Duson Elementary to serve as principal. During this time the school’s performance score moved from a 73.8–C to a 83.2–B and English Language Proficiency Test index scores grew from 45.6 to 95.0. Fontenot prides herself on establishing a school community of teamwork and respect.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as a member of the district’s instructional leadership team. I am eager to work with the ESL and World Language Immersion teams, as well as school administrators, to provide our students the best education possible,” states Fontenot.

Fontenot earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1999 and her master’s degree in educational leadership from McNeese State University in 2006. Mrs. Fontenot is a 2023 LPSS Elementary Principal of the Year Nominee.
