The University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s College of Engineering and the Lafayette Parish School System’s Lafayette High School are proud to announce an exciting new partnership aimed at providing Lafayette High school students with an enhanced opportunity to explore the field of engineering. Eligible students will have the chance to enroll in the EECE-140 Introduction to Computer Engineering course, gaining valuable college credits while still in high school.
Dr. Ahmed Khattab, College of Engineering Dean and Ms. Julia Williams, Lafayette High School Principal and their teams met recently to create the dual enrollment partnership. Team members included Corinne Dupuy, Assistant Dean, Dr. Michael Pratt, Professor of Practice, COE Electrical and Computer Engineering (EECE) Department, Ms. Jennifer Luquette, Jumpstart Counselor, Mr. Ryan Martin, District Supervisor and Mr. Christopher Broussard, Director of Career and Technical Education and Lafayette Magnet Academies, both with the Lafayette Parish School System.
The College of Engineering and Lafayette High School share a common vision of preparing students for a successful future in the technology-driven world. This partnership represents a significant milestone in advancing engineering education and is poised to make a lasting impact on the lives of students in the Lafayette community.

By joining the dual enrollment program, Lafayette High School students who complete the lecture course and its accompanying lab requirement would earn both high school and university credits. In addition, those students will have access to the resources and expertise of the College of Engineering. This includes state-of-the-art laboratories, cutting-edge software and hardware, and a supportive learning environment that encourages exploration and innovation.
"We are excited for the partnership with UL to provide our students with dual enrollment engineering courses. This kind of exposure will show students the different fields of engineering available to them and better prepare them to make decisions regarding post-secondary education," states Lafayette High Principal Julia Williams.
“The EECE 140 Introduction to Computer Engineering was selected to introduce students to the fundamentals of digital design which is the foundation of designing smart systems that dominate our lives,” said University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Electrical & Computer Engineering Department Head Dr.
Magdy Bayoumi, Ph.D. The course will challenge the imagination and curiosity of the students through hands-on projects, under the guidance of our esteemed faculty,” continue Bayoumi.
Additionally, students will benefit from interacting with college-level instructors and fellow students, gaining valuable insights into the academic and professional aspects of engineering.
