Lafayette Parish School Board Fast Tracks $16 Million In Upgrades

16 Million In Upgrades

Last week, the Lafayette Parish School Board (LPSB) greenlit a comprehensive list of capital requests amounting to an estimated $16 million. This strategic decision aims to accelerate project timelines, ensuring that work on the projects can begin ahead of the upcoming academic year. 

Highlighted among the major high school projects are: 

  • Acadiana High School: $2,677,500 (pavilion, covered walkways phase 2) 
  • Carencro High School: $4,475,000 (field house, gravel paving, ag shop, expanded front parking lot, digital led board) 
  • Comeaux High School: $2,300,000 (roofing, remodel all restrooms in athletic facilities, painting of school) 
  • Lafayette High School : $2,100,000 (turf and scoreboard) 
  • Northside High School: $125,000 (paint exterior of school, stucco, exterior doors and metal beams) 
  • Southside High School: $3,307,007 (turf, lighting, and score board) 
  • David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy: $50,000 (vinyl flooring) 

Superintendent Francis Touchet, Jr. expresses gratitude to the board for enabling an expedited start, stating, “The district staff has initiated work on these projects. We appreciate the board’s foresight in expediting the process, allowing us to make significant strides before the next school year.” 

Additional approved projects for elementary and middle schools include roofing, painting, and safety upgrades.
