The Lafayette Parish School System is pleased to announce the appointment of Alex Melton as the Director of District Progress and Compliance.

Mr. Melton brings 26 years of experience to his new role, the last 12 with LPSS. He worked as a classroom teacher for 14 years and served as a Dean of Students, grade-level chair, and coach. His move to administration began in 2012 as an assistant principal at David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy, where he served for five years before being promoted to principal of Early College Academy (ECA), where he served for five years. While serving as principal at ECA, the school was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education in 2019, a 2020 National ESEA Distinguished School, and ranked as the number one school in Louisiana. During his time at David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy, the school showed academic growth in all major academic areas.

Mr. Melton states, “I am excited to have the opportunity to positively impact the school system and work with the team to lead the district to even greater heights.”

“Alex Melton's leadership has consistently driven growth and success at his previous schools. Melton’s guidance as Director of District Progress and Compliance will undoubtedly benefit the entirety of LPSS through his ability to set high standards and motivate others to achieve them,” states Superintendent Francis Touchet Jr.
