The Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Ginger Richard as the new Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. With over 21 years of dedicated service in LPSS and a career marked by instructional leadership and student advocacy, Mrs. Richard steps into this critical role with a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to academic excellence.
Mrs. Richard most recently served as the district’s Chief of Elementary Schools, where she provided leadership and support to elementary campuses across the parish. Her career in education began at Ridge Elementary School, where she taught general education students as well as English Language Learners. Fueled by her desire to have a broader impact on educational outcomes, she earned a Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership and has since served in a variety of influential roles within LPSS, including Elementary Math Lead Teacher, Instructional Strategist at Milton Elementary/Middle, Assistant Principal, Principal of Green T. Lindon Elementary, and Supervisor of Language Acquisition K-12.
The Department of Curriculum & Instruction plays a key role in shaping the district’s instructional vision and supporting schools through the development and coordination of academic programs. This includes core content areas as well as early childhood education, special education, world languages, English as a Second Language, art and music, physical education and health, athletics, career and technical education, and the district's Magnet Academy programs. The department works to ensure every student in Lafayette Parish has access to a high-quality, equitable, and engaging educational experience.
Reflecting on her new position, Mrs. Richard shared:
“With Lafayette Parish leading the State of Louisiana in growth, I am honored to take on the vital role of Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum and Instruction. I am committed to fostering continued growth and working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure that every student receives high-quality educational opportunities while addressing their diverse needs and empowering them to achieve success at every level.”
Superintendent Francis Touchet Jr. expressed his confidence in Richard’s appointment, stating, “Mrs. Richard is a dynamic and experienced leader who understands the needs of our schools, teachers, and students. Her ability to bring people together around a shared instructional vision will serve our district well as we continue to grow and innovate. I am excited to see the impact she will make in this vital role.”
Mrs. Richard will assume the position following the retirement of Janine LaFleur, who will conclude her service with LPSS in June.
