The Lafayette Parish School System is proud to announce that Tia Mechelle Trahan, the 2024 Louisiana Overall Principal of the Year, has been appointed as principal of Paul Breaux Middle School beginning in the 2025–26 school year.
Ms. Trahan is excited about the opportunity, saying, “Becoming the principal of Paul Breaux Middle School is more than a new chapter—it feels like coming to a place rooted in purpose, pride, and promise. After nearly nine incredible years as a Lion, I’m humbled and honored to now call myself a Tiger. Paul Breaux is not just a school; it’s a community cornerstone with a rich history and legacy that I deeply respect and look forward to honoring. There’s an invisible thread that ties the past to the present and stretches forward into our future—and I am committed to nurturing that connection while maximizing the potential of every student and adult of the Paul Breaux Family.”
Trahan currently serves as principal of Lafayette Middle School, where her leadership has driven significant academic gains, including an 11.1-point increase in the School Performance Score (SPS), earning the school the prestigious Louisiana Comeback Campus distinction. With over 20 years of experience in public education, Trahan brings a proven track record of academic excellence, community engagement, and strong leadership.
“Tia Trahan exemplifies servant leadership,” said Superintendent Francis Touchet. “Her passion for students, her focus on academic growth, and her unwavering commitment to equity make her the perfect fit for Paul Breaux. We are excited to see the continued success she will bring to the campus and the community.”
A National Board Certified Teacher and veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, Trahan is recognized both statewide and nationally for her innovative leadership and dedication to student success. She will begin her new role at Paul Breaux Middle School in July 2025.
