Reading over the summer helps students maintain the skills they’ve worked hard to build during the school year and prepares them for a strong start in the fall. Just 20 minutes of reading a day can make a big difference in preventing learning loss and boosting confidence!

To support summer reading, LPSS and the Lafayette Public Library are offering great opportunities for students and families:

School Libraries Open This Summer
Libraries at several LPSS schools will be open on select days, giving students a chance to check out books and take Accelerated Reader (AR) tests. A full list of participating schools—like Martial Billeaud, Milton, Broussard Middle, and more—along with dates and times, is posted below.

Lafayette Public Library Summer Reading Challenge
Beginning May 26, students can register for the Summer Reading Challenge at any LPL branch or online at LafayettePublicLibrary.org/Summer. Kids can earn prizes just for reading!

Kickoff Event – Saturday, June 7
Join the fun at LPL’s Summer Reading Kickoff on Saturday, June 7 from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM at the Main Library Downtown. It’s a great way to get excited about reading—with activities for the whole family!
