The Lafayette Parish School Board has entered into a five-year service and maintenance agreement with Star Service, Inc., a professional HVAC services provider. Under the contract, Star Service will maintain and service HVAC systems across all LPSS schools and facilities, helping ensure consistent climate control for students and staff.
In February, board members unanimously authorized the Superintendent and staff, Board President and Board Vice-President to enter negotiations for a Professional Service Contract with Star Service. The agreement, which begins July 1, 2025, reflects the district’s commitment to creating safe, comfortable learning environments by prioritizing reliable facility management and preventative maintenance.
Board President Britt Latiolais praised the selection of Star Service, noting the positive impression the company made during a past Louisiana School Boards Association conference and its prior work with LPSS.
“I’ve seen firsthand the quality and professionalism Star Service brings to the table,” said Latiolais. “They do great work and keep the Board in the loop with regular updates. When it comes to learning, environment matters—students can’t focus if they’re too hot or too cold. This contract is about making sure every classroom is a place where kids can learn comfortably and effectively.”
In addition to the service agreement, the School Board also voted to engage Henry C. Eyre, Jr., P.E. Consulting Engineers as an independent consultant. The firm will collaborate with Star Service to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the district's HVAC systems. Based on the findings, a long-term strategic plan will be developed, taking into account the remaining service life of the equipment.
