The Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) has received an AA+ bond rating from S&P Global Ratings—one of the highest ratings awarded to public institutions. This achievement highlights LPSS’s strong financial management and smart long-term planning as the district continues investing in students, staff, and schools.

The AA+ rating reflects LPSS’s solid financial position, responsible use of resources, and steady economic growth in the community. The report praised the district’s very strong reserves, low volatility of the pledged revenue stream, and strong economic fundamentals—factors that contributed to the high rating.

“This is a big deal for us,” said Superintendent Francis Touchet Jr. “It shows that we’re being good stewards of our budget and that we’re making smart decisions for the long term. Every dollar we save on interest or borrowing costs is a dollar we can put back into classrooms, campuses, and kids.”

S&P’s evaluation noted that LPSS’s financial outlook is stable and that future revenue growth is likely due to ongoing development in Lafayette Parish, including new housing, retail, and commercial projects.

Board President Britt Latiolais added, “This rating shows that LPSS is living up to its promise to be responsible with taxpayer dollars. We’ve made tough, smart choices to make sure every dollar is working for our students and schools—and it’s paying off. This is a win for the entire community.”

The rating will help the district secure favorable terms for bonds, allowing it to fund key projects like school renovations and expansions while keeping long-term costs low.
