LPSS High School Teachers Collaborate to Build ACT Curriculum for Parish-Wide Use

ACT

This week, a dedicated group of high school English and math teachers from the Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) are working collaboratively to design a comprehensive, parish-wide ACT curriculum. This curriculum will be used by LPSS high schools during their designated Instructional Focus periods to help students strengthen the essential skills needed to succeed on the ACT exam.

Bringing together some of the district’s most capable and committed educators, the team is spending the entire week aligning content to key ACT standards, developing engaging lessons, and curating practice resources that are both rigorous and relevant. The collaborative effort is aimed at ensuring that every high school student in LPSS has access to consistent, high-quality ACT preparation.

“This work is a direct investment in our students’ futures. By developing a unified curriculum, we’re ensuring that all students receive targeted instruction that can help improve their ACT performance and expand their postsecondary options,” said Alex Melton, Director of District Performance and Compliance.

The newly developed curriculum will be ready for implementation at the start of the upcoming school year.

Julia Williams, LPSS Chief of High Schools, stated, “We want every student, no matter their school, to have a real shot at success. This ACT curriculum will help level the playing field and raise expectations across the board.”

This initiative reflects LPSS’s ongoing commitment to student success and academic excellence, and highlights the vital role of teacher leadership in driving innovation and improvement across the district.
