The Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) has made changes to the uniform policy for the 2025–26 school year, aimed at creating a more consistent dress code across grade levels while prioritizing student safety. Among the most significant changes is an update to the policy on hooded garments for elementary students.
Clarified Hooded Garment Policy
Beginning in the 2025–26 school year, students in Pre-K through 5th grade will be allowed to wear jackets, coats, sweaters, and sweatshirts with hoods. This marks a change from previous years and brings the elementary dress code more in line with the practical needs of younger students.
For students in grades 6 through 12, the rule remains the same: hooded garments are not allowed on campus. This policy helps maintain a safer environment by overcoming supervision challenges associated with garments that obscure faces or conceal items.
“Every decision we make will align with the safety and well-being of our students and staff,” said Superintendent Francis Touchet. “We’ve worked to clarify and simplify our dress code, and we’re being thoughtful about what supports a secure, focused learning environment at every grade level.”
