From the Superintendent: Building Connections, Boosting Success

Francis Touchet

Dear LPSS Families, Staff, and Community,

The 2025–26 school year is officially underway, and it’s been inspiring to see our campuses filled with energy, excitement, and the joy of learning. As we settle into our routines, I want to share two priorities that will guide our work this year. These focus areas connect directly to our core values, culture, opportunity, growth, and safety, and they are key to helping every student succeed.

First, we’re committed to building strong, meaningful relationships with our students. When a child feels their teacher truly cares about them and their success, they are more likely to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. That connection also makes them want to come to school.

Which brings me to our second priority: reducing chronic absenteeism. This means missing 10% or more of school days, for any reason. Every day in the classroom matters. Students cannot grow and reach their full potential if they are not present and engaged in learning.

Our Child Welfare and Attendance Team is ready to work with schools, families, and community partners to remove barriers, re-engage students, and help them stay connected. Together, we can make sure every child feels valued, supported, and excited to learn.

When we build relationships, we build success. Thank you for partnering with us to make this school year one where every student has the chance to learn, grow, and thrive.

With appreciation,
