In 2023, LPSS partnered with educators, families, and community members to answer an important question: What do we want every LPSS school to be?
The answer led to a shared vision. Schools thrive when they are safe, welcoming, and focused on helping every student grow.
From that work, we established the four Core Values that guide our district:
- Safety: Every school should be a secure, supportive place to learn and work.
- Culture: Respect, belonging, and positive relationships create school pride and stronger achievement.
- Growth: Students should make meaningful academic and personal progress each year.
- Opportunity: Every student deserves access to programs and pathways that build their future.
To help us measure how schools are living out these values, LPSS created the Core Value Accountability System. In September 2025, we released our first Core Report, which shows how each school is performing in Safety, Culture, Growth, and Opportunity. A midyear Progress Report will be shared in February 2026.
Why This Matters
Superintendent Francis Touchet emphasizes that our responsibility to students is broader than academics alone.
"We want our schools to be safe physically, socially, and emotionally. We want a cultural environment that welcomes students, teachers, families, and the community. We want meaningful academic and extracurricular opportunities. And we want to see student performance improve, even incrementally. We are educating the people who will take us into the future, and it's important that they be not only well-educated, but also well-rounded."
How to Read the Report
Each school receives a star rating in each of the four Core Values. Schools can earn one to five stars. The overall school score is the average of these ratings.
- Three stars means the school is meeting expectations.
- More than three stars means the school is exceeding expectations.
- Fewer than three stars means there are opportunities for improvement.
Each report also highlights strengths and achievements. Schools receive recommendations and support to continue growing where needed.
