The Lafayette Parish School System is proud to announce the 2026 Students of the Year for 5th, 8th, and 12th grades. The three students have excelled academically, demonstrated strong leadership, and participated actively in their community.
This year’s honorees are:

5th Grade: Avery Eaton, Milton Elementary School

8th Grade: Shya Hebert, LJ Alleman Middle School

12th Grade: Lincoln Trumps, Lafayette High School
Superintendent Francis Touchet, Jr., and his leadership team made the presentations Tuesday morning at each of the schools. Touchet says:
“Congratulations to our Students of the Year on this outstanding achievement. The academic success, thoughtful essays, and strong interviews required for this honor speak to their hard work and character. I am proud of the growth of every LPSS student, and these honorees show what is possible in our schools.”
The district winners will go on to represent Lafayette Parish at the zone-level competition, which begins in December. Students who advance from zone judging will compete at the regional level later this school year.
