Expanding Opportunity: Learning Beyond the Classroom

Expanding Opportunity

Students from Lafayette High School's Gifted Leadership program recently took learning beyond the classroom, gaining firsthand experience at the Louisiana State Capitol.

During their visit, students observed committee meetings, engaged with state leaders, and saw the legislative process in action. These real-world experiences helped deepen their understanding of how government works and the responsibilities that come with leadership.

The opportunity was made possible through the support of several state leaders, including District 43 State Representative Josh Carlson, District 41 State Representative Troy Hebert, District 45 Representative Annie Spell, District 44 State Representative Tehmi Chassion, and State Senator Brach Myers. Their time and willingness to connect with students provided valuable insight into public service and civic responsibility.

Experiences like this open doors for students to see what is possible. By connecting classroom learning to real-world application, LPSS continues to create meaningful opportunities that prepare students to lead, serve, and succeed.
