Summer Reading

English IV and V Dual Enrollment

English 102 and 201

(Advanced Composition and British Lit to 1800)

Students taking this combination of courses are required to complete the summer reading for Dual Enrollment III and IV (either Outliers orFreakonomics) and the assigned dialectical journal.

During the fall semester (while you are taking English 102), you should order the English 201 textbook. You want to have the textbook before the beginning of UL's spring semester. You do not have to do the summer reading for Dual Enrollment 5/English 201.

Textbooks

textbookIn Dual Enrollment, you are responsible for purchasing your own textbooks. We have been careful to select textbooks that can be purchased used for much lower prices. If you choose to buy a used book, please order it early and make sure it is the correct volume/edition. The books may also be available for rent through UL's bookstore or Amazon.

English 201

The Norton Anthology of English Literature (Ninth Edition) (Vol. Package 1: Volumes A, B, C); ISBN-13: 978-0393913002

For English 201 (Dual Enrollment V in the spring), you must have package 1 (vol. A, B, and C) no later than the official start date of UL's semester.

It is recommended that you purchase rather than rent. For the 9th edition of the Norton Anthology, you may not be able to rent, and you cannot annotate or highlight in a rented copy. Note that there is a newer 10th edition of these texts. For now, we are using the 9th so that used books are more available to you at a lower price. If you choose to buy a new or used copy of the 10th edition, that is okay, but you may need to check with your teacher each week to make sure you read the correct material. There are also omnibus versions of both the 9th and 10th editions (in which all three volumes are in one book). It is fine to do that version, but note that the omnibus books are HUGE and may be cumbersome to carry around campus.
