Summer Reading

Gifted English 4

For the 2025-26 school year, choose one of the books below to read for the summer. While reading, you will complete 15 booksnaps according to these directions. Although you are allowed to use an audiobook, you will need a physical copy to complete your assignment as directed. This assignment WILL NOT be accepted after the first full week of school. If you have any questions about this assignment over the summer, you can email Dr. Godbold.

Here are your novel choices and a suggestion of thematic topics to help you identify moments for your booksnaps:

  • Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
         *  Isolation, Childhood, Manipulation/deceit, War and survival, Good and evil
  • Patron Saints of Nothing by Randy Ribay
         *  Growing up, Truth and justice, Guilt, Grief, Heritage/culture
  • Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
         *  Hypocrisy, Freedom vs. oppression, Love (particularly siblings and extended family), Colonialism
  • Radium Girls by Kate Moore
         *  Justic, Corporate corruption, Resilience, Labor reform

A note on the choice novels:
To varying degrees, these texts deal with difficult or graphic situations. Please consider which book is appropriate for you in discussion with your parents/guardians.
