How to Become a Certified Bus Driver for the Lafayette Parish School System

Step 1  |  Attend the ELDT (Entry Level Driver Training Course)  |  Cost: $0

Step 2  | Take CDL Written Test  |  Cost: $15
Each one of these endorsements MUST be listed on your CDL in order 

  • Test 1 General Knowledge
  • Test 2 Airbrakes (Restriction Removed)
  • Test 3 Passenger
  • Test 4 School Bus

Step 3 | Schedule your CDL Physical Exam  |  Cost: $0

Step 4 | Submit Physical to OMV to receive your CDL permit with all endorsements.  |  Cost: $0

Step 5 | Attend CPR and First Aid Class  |  Cost: $0

Step 6 | Go to www.lpssonline.com and complete the following:   | Cost: $0

  • Bus Driver Application
  • CDL Physical Forms
  • Social Security Card 
  • Birth Certificate 
  • Proof of Education, either High School or GED Certificate 
  • Defensive Driving Certificate 
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate 
  • Behind the Wheel Training Verification Form

Step 7 | Behind the Wheel Training  | Cost: $0

Step 8 | CDL Third Party Testing | Cost: $100

Step 9 | Submit all required documentation to the DMV to obtain CDL.  |  Cost: Varies
Include test scores from Third Party test.

Step 10 | Bring copy of your CDL to LPSS Employee Services

Step 11 | Head over to the LPSS Transportation Department

Congratulations! You can now start driving and working with the LPSS Transportation Department!
