In front of a packed auditorium filled with students, colleagues, and a cheering audience of special guests, Green T. Lindon Elementary School’s 3rd grade teacher Corrie Campbell got the surprise of a lifetime when Mr. Lowell Milken announced she has been chosen as a recipient of a 2023 Milken Educator Award.
“I am speechless, thank you so much for this award,” says Campbell. Campbell is one of 40 educators nationwide and the third in Louisiana to receive a Milken Educator Award this year. Campbell is Lafayette Parish’s second educator to receive this top honor, she follows Ms. Angela Boxie who received the award in 2017.
Following introductions by Principal Nancy Credeur, Superintendent Irma Duplechain Trosclair, and State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley, Lowell, told the audience the real reason behind the assembly. With the news out, the room filled with excitement and congratulations were in order.
“Winning a Milken Educator Award is a prestigious honor and Lafayette Parish is proud to have one of our top educators selected for this award. We congratulate Ms. Campbell and look forward to the many wonderful opportunities this recognition will provide as she continues to help her students grow and be a champion for professional educators.” states Trosclair.
Campbell will be recognized at an upcoming BESE board meeting as well as honored at an awards gala that will be held in July. She will also attend specialized professional development training in Los Angeles in the spring.
