How do students get into the Talented Program?

Listed below is a general overview of the necessary steps for a student to qualify for Talented Program services. For more information, screening materials and deadline dates please contact your school's SBLC Chairperson.

  • Teacher or parent/guardian submit request for Talented Screening to the Health and Wellness Chairperson at the child’s school
  • The school’s Health and Wellness Committee sends home “Parent Permission” form, “Portfolio Requirements” and the due date for submission
  • On or before the due date, the parent/guardian or teacher submits the permission form and portfolio to the Health and Wellness Committee at the child’s school
  • Portfolios are screened by arts professionals
  • Screening results are sent to parent/guardian by the Health and  Wellness Committee at the child’s school
  • Students who pass the initial screening will proceed to the state level evaluation process
  • Information about the state evaluation will be provided by the school’s Health and Wellness Committee
  • Students who pass the state evaluation will be notified by the school’s Health and Wellness Committee and are eligible to receive Talented Program services until graduation
